How to Use Dialogue to Create Encyclopedic Knowledge
How to Use Dialogue to Create Encyclopedic KnowledgeNarration essay, or dialogues, is a key component of the writing workshop, and can be part of any Writing Workshop module, whether you choose EncuLP, and EncuLP - EncuLP, in general. During a question and answer session, Karen Brown, of EncuLP, the dialogue software that also handles research tasks, says, 'Narration is a powerful tool for students.' Her computer says, 'Exactly.'So, how can we read to our readers? How can we communicate without sounding robotic? Students, teachers, and lecturers have used the dialogue option to create dialogue and keep students engaged, when appropriate. This particular course is about dialogues.During their discussion, Karen Brown and the instructor offer some hints on how to add some encyclopedic knowledge to your dialogue pieces. For example, let's say you are giving a description of a place with details like its location, its amenities, etc. You can include the location and its amenities, but avo id using specifics. Then, when it comes time to write the dialogue, use your description as an example of a dialogue topic and then use the descriptive words in your sentence. Thus, instead of stating, 'A health club meets here,' you could state, 'A health club, located here, meets here.'When you put it this way, your writer's voice can be clear and easy to understand. You can also include factual information that helps to make the piece memorable. For example, the dialogue from your health club could talk about the amenities available at the health club, the equipment they use for exercise, and any other amenities that may be a benefit. One other key to dialogue is to learn how to use your encyclopedic knowledge to frame your vocabulary and your voice. By learning to go beyond specific details, you can create dialogue topics that are lively and relevant.A combination of this two skills will help you communicate in a natural and engaging manner and to share your knowledge in a languag e that your readers can understand. If you practice dialogue for 30 minutes each day, then you will begin to develop your abilities to write coherently in a dialogical style. In addition, you will find that you are able to expand your author's voice by focusing on the experience of others. This experience, called 'participation'conversational engagement,' is an essential skill that all writers must master.
